HDR (High Dynamic Range) rendering is a method used in images (and photography), allowing for a greater dynamic range between light and dark areas, severly overbrighting certain bright colors compared to darker places/colors and increasing the overall quality (colors and gradients) of the rendered images. This option is available since Half-Life 2: Episode One and is available in all Source games up to date. HDR is only suitable for the more powerful computers as it may severly downgrade performance in big open and/or bright areas.
