The M249, often referred to as the Machine Gun is the only Machine gun featured in Counter-Strike: Source.

Usage
The M249 is a very famous weapon in the zombie escape gameplay. The main reason is because of it's large clip size and very high rate of fire, by which it is capable to hold off multiple zombies at the same time. Another reason is because it has a very large magazine, usually granting enough ammo for the whole round (Beware of maps such as ze_Predator_Ultimate where this is not always true on the most difficult levels!). It can also shoot underwater! However, while the M249 is a very effective and powerful weapon, it comes with some fatal disadvantages if used with the incorrect distances/accuracy/timing/circumstances.
- This weapon is very heavy and combined with its unusually long reloading time, it can be easily outmatched by the speed of the zombies. When you are in a hurry, switch to your knife or pistol instead of reloading!
- Spraying all over the place is ineffective, even with its high spread. You may only do this if the zombie horde is very close, but if they are at moderate or long distances, shooting with short bursts is recommended.
- Contrary to high believe, this weapons' magazine can be empty in a few seconds if you keep spraying all over the place. Conserve your ammo when you are not necessarly forced to use your primary weapon, instead use your pistol to keep zombies at a distance.
- Using this with a .40 Dual Elites is very effective for holding off zombies while running. If you are camping in a crouching motion (ie vents) along with some teammates, it becomes a powerful weapon and can hold multiple zombies if done correctly.
Trivia
- Despite being known as the "heaviest gun in the game", weapon such as the Clarion 5.56, IDF Defender, Magnum Sniper Rifle, D3/AU-1 and the Krieg 550 Commando are heavier than the M249. This is also logic because this weapon classes under 'light machine guns'.
